Khamma

Audioguide about the place

The hamlet is situated at 160 meters above sea level and is home to about 1200 residents. The name "Khamma" derives from the Arabic "hamma," which means "hot water spring," referring to the nearby spring at Cala Gadir.
Khamma is also home to various shops and services, including a tobacconist, a grocery store, a general store, the post office, the primary school, and the Circolo Trieste, located opposite the church. Recently built are the multi-purpose sports fields adjacent to the building that was once a kindergarten and is now a recreational center for the elderly.

In the heart of the village of Khamma stands the Church dedicated to its patron saint, St. Francis of Assisi, whose feast is celebrated on October 4th. Ancient documents attest to the presence of this small religious building as early as 1522. The church underwent several restorations until 1926. A notable feature of this church is the presence of three altars, dedicated respectively to St. Francis, St. Joseph, and the Crucifix.
