Tracino

Tracino, whose name derives from the Arabic "traf," meaning "tip" or "head," probably in reference to the presence of the coastal tip of Cala Levante, one of the many sheltered corners along this coast, from where you can admire the sunrise painting the sea white and pink. Here, one feels immersed in an atmosphere of tranquility while enjoying the beauty of the surrounding nature, with the scenic Faraglione and the peculiar shapes of the Elephant Arch standing out against the sea. Moreover, on extremely serene days with a clear sky, it's possible to catch sight of Punta Granitola, near Sciacca, and a short stretch of the Sicilian coast.

In the center of the district of Tracino lies Piazza Perugia, so named because during World War II a detachment of the "Perugia Division" had settled in this area and built a chapel to celebrate mass. Surrounding the square are various shops and services, including a tobacco shop, a bar, a pizzeria, and a kindergarten. The Church of Madonna della Pace dominates the square, taking its name from the presence inside of a painting depicting the Madonna of Peace, probably the work of one of those soldiers who dwelled in this place during the war.

In the district of Tracino, three clubs are still active: the Circolo Vittorio Veneto and the Circolo Italia Redenta, known as "U Fossu," both founded in the early decades of the twentieth century, and the Circolo Kouteck, of more recent foundation.

From Piazza di Tracino, several roads diverge:

An ascent leading to Mueggen.
A descent along Via Marina, which delves into the district before descending towards the perimeter and reaching Cala Levante and Cala Tramontana.
A road descending towards the Piana di Ghirlanda, a very fertile area surrounded by Monte Gibele and other heights that protect it from the winds. In the midst of a grove of holm oaks, carved into the rock, lies the archaeological site of the Byzantine necropolis.
A road ascending towards "I praie," a still cultivated hill that dominates the district.
