The sesi of Pantelleria are the funerary monuments of the community that lived in Mursia between 1800 and 1450 BC, i.e. in the Bronze Age.

They are unique monuments that do not find comparisons between the structures and rituals used in Sicily and in the Mediterranean. They are large mounds built in dry stone with various corridors and related cells where the deceased were placed together with grave goods. Distributed in the area around the village, just over 60 Sesi of various sizes are known today, from 4 to 20 m and with a number of cells from 3 to 12. The one you are visiting is Il Sese grande and it is the largest monument which can be visited: With its circular shape, it stands majestically, attracting the attention of those who visit it. Its impressive dimensions include a diameter of 20 meters and a height of around 5 metres, making it an imposing presence in the landscape.

As you approach, you can immerse yourself in the history and atmosphere of this ancient monument. Going around it you will notice 12 entrances, each with a narrow corridor that leads to one of the respective internal cells with a circular or oval plan.
